Foils and membranes are used in dental surgery and in oral surgery whenever a bony defect or bone resorption is present and new bone must be regenerated, or endogenous bone regeneration supported.

The use of membranes assumes an important role particularly in the field of implant and periodontal surgery.

In this regard they can perform several functions.

• Membranes form boundaries or barriers between different tissues/materials
• Membranes stabilize tissues or materials at the desired location, so that they don’t slip
• Membranes provide defense against infection
• Membranes support the hemostasis process

For the various requirements in guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and guided bone regeneration (GBR), both absorbable and non–absorbable foils/membranes are available.
